The 3 Most Common Places A Transmission Leaks Fluid
Leaking transmission fluid can cause problems for a number of reasons. Without proper lubrication, the transmission can overheat and corrosion can occur. It can also lead to transmission failure if the leak is bad enough, which is why we recommend bringing your vehicle into our shop as soon as you notice a leak underneath your vehicle.
Getting the leak taken care quickly can prevent major issues from occurring and can save you money on the repair. The longer you wait, the more you risk damage happening to the transmission. If you do notice a leak under your car, look closer at the fluid and determine the color and consistency. If it is an oil like consistency that is either red or orange, this is an indication of a transmission fluid leak.
Here at the three most common places a transmission can leak fluid:
1. Transmission Pan Gasket
The gasket on the transmission pan is susceptible to damage and cracking, especially when exposed to extreme heat. Once the gasket is damaged, a leak will occur. Luckily, it is a relatively easy fix.
2. Cooler Lines
The cooler lines can allow wear down and break over time due to heat exposure and debris. If a cooler line cracks, a leak will occur as transmission fluid is circulated through the system.
3. Seals
The transmission runs on hydraulic pressure with the help of many different seals. Over time, seals can begin to wear down and loosen up. A leaky seal can cause a consistent leak and is common due to the amount of seals in the transmission.
